Meeting Revoker!

Turisas gig review - Manchester Club Academy

17 October 2013 at 22:00

Anyone going down Oxford Road tonight (last Saturday/12th) will be looking at this line wondering what is going on, and why there's helmets, swords, axes and chain-mail with a dash of face paint too. Unless of course, you know Turisas's final gig of the tour is here. Everyone outside is having a great laugh, singing along, and shouting random chants, truly a good bit of comedy for those waiting in line.

First band up, Astrohenge.

When they take to the stage you have a feeling they'll be very pirate metal like, very nice band to kick it off. Instead, we get an instrumental smack of heavy riffs, excellent drum beat and bass, yes the synths going on is very... Off putting. When you hear the riffs you want to take them seriously, but the synths make you feel it's more a fun and games type of thing. 6/10

Second in line, Revoker.

Having seen these guys twice before, I knew what I'd be in for. Also having an interview with these guys after the show made me even more anxious to see what they bring to the table tonight. Playing 2 new tunes from the album out next year, Hands of Justice is a nice taste of the classic Revoker style where Generation Genocide tears through the crowd with it's heaviness. The other songs they play have the same edge and kick they always do, and they have an amazing energy about them which they bring to the crowd. 8/10

Lastly: TURISAS!

Now, with only having a little knowledge of Turisas songs, I felt a little bad. But, kicking off with a bang, they make sure every single person in the sod out show has the time of their lives. About half 9 they troddle off stage, and return 5 mins later to play the 2nd half of their set. Each and every song coming out brilliantly, as if they don't have a need to focus but just to enjoy themselves and that's exactly what they did. Coming back for the Encore of Rasputin, and finishing by saying "We all have a point where we feel like giving up, we too felt like that at one point. But we came back and fought, and now here we are!" and kicking into Stand up and Fight the crowd unleashes every little bit of energy they have left into this finale of finales. Powerful words, Drinking songs on Manchester, beautiful and destructive music, they are truly a band to go and see live. 10/10
